Introducing: Lighthouse, Inc.

In January 2017, Lighthouse, Inc. was established as a global symbol of hope for the next generation. We are an organization of activists, academics, and associates, dedicated to protecting the civil liberties of others. As a future non-profit 501(c)(3) organization, Lighthouse is an inclusive resource haven for young adults of every race, ethnicity, nationality, sexuality and gender, religious belief, class and age. Our principles are founded upon respect, trust, and loyalty, aiming for achievements built by empathy, determination, and justice. All of this comes from our core mandate: nobody gets left behind.

Lighthouse, Inc. began as a movement to give the younger generation a stage. This is our purpose: we give the youth a stage, and an international network of support, to freely express and enact their dreams with their own unique styles for a better world without hindrance or someone speaking over them. We’re not here to give the youth a voice anymore; they have their own voices. We’re here to make sure others let them speak and be heard. So, we invite everyone to step up and bring forth their ideas, so that we can help you achieve your goals with the support that you ask for. This is about you now. Whoever you choose to become, whatever you choose to believe in, all that we ask is that you take charge of your vision with the utmost loving devotion. And we’ll make it happen.

It is our personal mission to protect the youth of this world; a world that seems quite insistent on seeking power over others rather than equality in a world that is shared. It is now our responsibility to bring that privilege into check and make way for the next generation by leaving behind a better world than how we found it. To do this, we have to allow that generation to question the world they will inherit and the legacy they wish to leave for the generations to come. Our power comes from unity.

Our first goal, The Man’ara Initiative (man’ara means the lighthouse in Arabic), is to gather like-minded young adults into a network across the globe and to provide them with an opportunity to speak up about their social experiences, issues, and goals for a better future. Within the first hundred days, we hope to achieve a comprehensive network of coalitions and divisions for every social group with clearly set goals for the year ahead. Our organizational goal is truly massive; one that will take time, effort and learning from mistakes, but nothing we set out to do is impossible.

Grace Hopper, one of the first programmers for the first true computer in history, said, “The most dangerous phrase in the language is, ‘We’ve always done it this way.’” And, as such, it’s of pinnacle importance for us to realize that it doesn’t have to be so. We will question our traditions, we will challenge our barriers, and we will build a better future. We are young and rebellious hope personified. And so begins the legacy of Lighthouse, Incorporated.
